A winter storm will move into Maine late Saturday and continue through Sunday and into early Monday, bringing widespread snow and areas of mixed precipitation that could make travel difficult.

Most of Maine is under winter weather advisories for the storm, according to the National Weather Service.

Northern and central sections of the state — including Aroostook County, northern Piscataquis, northern Penobscot and much of Somerset County — are expected to receive 4 to 7 inches of snow from early Sunday through early Monday.

In parts of western Maine, including Oxford, Franklin and southern Somerset counties, forecasters are calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow between late tonight and Sunday evening.

Across southern and coastal Maine, the storm is expected to bring up to 3 inches of snow, along with sleet and a light glaze of ice.

Similar mixed precipitation is forecast for much of eastern Maine, including Bangor and Down East.

Snow is expected to spread into the state overnight, with precipitation falling at times Sunday before tapering off late Sunday night and early Monday.

Roads are expected to become slippery across much of the state, and officials urged motorists to use caution if travel is necessary.
