The New England elements could be a factor in Sunday night’s Wild Card game between the Patriots and Chargers at Gillette Stadium.
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 20 percent chance of precipitation, while temperatures will hover around freezing with gusty winds.
“A slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 10pm and 2am,” the NWS wrote on Friday afternoon. “Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.”
A California dome team, Los Angeles has only played in one game below 40 degrees this season, and whether or not there’s precipitation, winds gusting over 30 miles per hour could affect both the kicking and passing games.
With the warm-weather Chargers coming to town, Louisiana native Will Campbell was hoping temperatures dropped lower than the initial forecast of 50-degree highs.
“I think it can help us,” Campbell said earlier this week. “It’s not even going to be cold this weekend, but obviously it would be nice if it was. I do not mind the cold. I honestly never have. I will not say that I’m — I’m not used to the cold, but I do not mind it. I enjoy playing up here. I enjoy being a part of this team and playing with these guys.”
