Kayla Vesia’s first workout about the death of her newborn daughter brought out a spectrum of emotions.
“It is the first hot class back,” Kayla, who is married to Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia, said in a Tuesday, January 6, TikTok video. “I’ve kinda been easing into it this week. … I’m going to start with hot yoga today and do one or two more hot yoga classes to see how I’m feeling [before] getting back into, hopefully, Pilates and barre and all of that.”
According to Kayla, her first postpartum workout “wrecked” her emotionally.
“I’m looking forward to [seeing if] this will help my mental [health] and everything, getting back into working out,” she said. “Everything just goes back to Sterling. I’m excited to get back to working out after I had her.”
How the Dodgers Supported Alex Vesia’s Family on Christmas After Losing Baby
Kayla and Alex, both 29, announced in November 2025 that their daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, “went to heaven.”
“There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her,” they wrote in a social media statement at the time. “Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”
While grieving the loss, Alex sat out the entirety of the Dodgers’ World Series championship last fall. (The Dodgers ultimately won the tournament over the Toronto Blue Jays.)
Kayla, for her part, added on Tuesday that she is trying to “stay positive” while adjusting to the couple’s new normal.
“I [want] to just take this as a win that I was cleared to work out,” she said. “I have my Oura ring back on and charged. [It’s] a ring that reminds me of Sterling, so when I get into class and am struggling, I can look down and find some strength. … I think [class] is going to be good.”
Dodgers Family Rallies Around Alex Vesia After His Baby Daughter’s Death
Aside from her gym return, Kayla has been taking it easy after the loss of her baby.
“Thankful for these slow mornings and a safe place ❤️🩹,” Kayla captioned a Wednesday, January 7, video of her morning routine, which included lounging in her backyard with the couple’s pets.
Kayla returned to social media for the first time earlier this month after Sterling’s death.
“Alex and I are trying to get through it every day. Every day is so different for us, and I don’t really have the words,” Kayla said in a tearful social media update. “I am really grateful for the community of you guys just expressing your support and love for us. It really has brought us a lot of comfort during this.”
She continued at the time, “[I don’t know] what this content is going to look like going forward, but I do want to share my journey. I don’t know how much I’m gonna share, I don’t know the details, but I do know I want to share if it can help somebody who’s going through the same thing feel like they’re not alone.”
