Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman won’t be the only former University of Maine player involved in hockey at the Winter Olympics in Italy beginning next month.

His former UMaine teammate, winger Eduards Tralmaks, will be playing for Latvia.

Tralmaks’ Latvia and Swayman’s Team USA open the tournament against each other at 3:10 p.m. ET on Feb. 12.

Tralmaks, who will be 29 on Feb. 17, has been playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League this season after signing a one-year, two-way contract with the parent Detroit Red Wings last March.

In 31 games for the Griffins, he has 14 goals and four assists. He is tied for 10th in the AHL in goals and is tied for 14th in plus-minus at plus-15.

Players receive a plus-one if they are on the ice when their team scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal and a minus one if the opponent scores one.

The Griffins have an AHL-leading 58 points on 28 wins, one regulation loss, one overtime loss and one shootout loss.

The 6-foot-4, 209-pound Tralmaks had a goal in three games in the final qualifying round to help Latvia earn a berth in the Olympics.

Tralmaks played for Latvia in the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships and led his country in points with seven in seven games. He had three goals and four assists.

In 119 career games at UMaine from 2017 to 2021, he notched 39 goals and 43 assists. He finished among the team’s top four point-getters in all four seasons.

He played for the AHL’s Providence Bruins right after his final season at UMaine and had two goals and two assists in eight games.

In 2021-22, he appeared in 51 games with Providence and had 14 goals and 13 assists. He also played for the ECHL’s Maine Mariners and had four goals and three assists in two games.

He appeared in 28 games for Providence in 2022-23 and had six goals and four assists and also played in one game for the Mariners.

He spent the last two seasons playing for Rytiri Kladno in Czechia, where he tallied 44 goals and 39 assists in 100 games.

During the 2024-25 season with Kladno, he had a league-leading 51 points on 23 goals and 28 assists in 48 regular season contests.
