Two dogs died, but no humans were harmed, in a fire in Pittsfield on Friday morning.
The home at 693 Canaan Road was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
An investigation by the state fire marshal’s office determined that the fire started in the ceiling of the kitchen, and is not considered suspicious.
The homeowners were not present when the fire broke out, and neighbors had been watching the property.
The investigation into the fire is ongoing, according to Moss.
