Former California-based equestrian Tatyana Remley died by suicide shortly after she was released from prison, where she was serving time for hiring a hitman to kill her husband, according to reports
Remley died at the age of 44 on Thursday, December 18, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to People. The medical examiner also confirmed that her death had been ruled a suicide.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
Remley previously made headlines when she was convicted for her involvement in a murder-for-hire case involving her estranged husband, Mark Remley, in 2023. She was arrested after she allegedly met with an undercover officer, whom she offered to pay to kill her estranged husband, according to People.

NBC San Diego reported that she pleaded guilty to solicitation to commit murder, and she was sentenced to serve three years and eight months in state prison.
An investigation into the matter was launched after a house fire was set at the couple’s ranch property in Del Mar, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. An arson unit was called to the scene, and Remley was arrested for alleged firearms-related offenses after authorities found three firearms and ammunition at the home.
One day later, investigators opened a murder-for-hire investigation after they received a tip that Remley allegedly was trying to hire someone to kill her husband.
“She provided detailed information on how she wanted her husband killed and his body disposed of,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement at the time, adding that she allegedly brought firearms and U.S. currency as a down payment for the killing.
The husband survived the fire, and he claimed to The Coast News that Remley offered a mutual friend $2 million to kill him. The friend declined the offer and alerted police, and a sting operation was initiated as investigators bolstered their case.
Remley reflected on the fire in divorce papers, saying that she and a friend were at the home at the time of the fire. However, she claimed she did not know how it started, according to The Coast News. Meanwhile, her estranged husband told the outlet that he believed the fire was intentionally set after he allegedly learned of her plans to have him killed.
The Coast News reported the Remleys married in 2011. However, the couple had separated and reconciled several times over the years leading up to the house fire. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Remley was charged with arson in connection with the house fire, according to People. She was scheduled to return to court regarding the charge on March 3, 2026.
