James Ransone’s wife, Jamie McPhee, is sharing an emotional update on her family after the actor’s death by suicide last week.
“Today I took our kids, with my angel Kristen, to the Glendale Mall. They wanted ice cream after the park. Violet picked out a pink backpack. Jack made me buy and then build things at the Lego store,” McPhee wrote via Instagram early Tuesday, December 23, alongside a photo of son Jack, 6, and Violet, 4, enjoying ice cream cones.
In the caption, McPhee wrote about how she is trying to persevere through her grief for the sake of the couple’s two children.
“I told a friend later, and she said, ‘It makes you realize you never really know what people are going through.’ And that’s true. Because in many moments we looked… happy. Normal. Laughing. Smiling,” she wrote. “How? Not because we aren’t grieving. We are. But because I have two beautiful, incredible children who force me *daily* to see all the love and all the light that still exists inside of this.”

McPhee also shared another tribute to Ransone, revealing how his tragic death has united people who knew him.
“PJ, the outpouring of love for you is truly beyond anything you could ever imagine,” she wrote, referring to Ransone by his nickname, PJ. “But more than that, this [devastating] loss has also given so many an unbelievable gift. I have been told countless stories. And there are probably a hundred thousand more I still haven’t heard of people reconnecting. Of friendships healing after years of silence. Of truths finally being spoken. Of old pain being brought into the light and somehow… softening. Sometimes almost instantly. I know this is real because I’ve done it myself in these past few days.”
McPhee concluded, “In the weeks before you left us, after months of telling me nearly every regret you’d ever carried: every mistake, every f**k-up, every hurtful thing you thought you’d wrote or said, you burst into tears and said: ‘Babe, you know the most f***ed-up thing of all?’ ‘I actually love everyone.’ Well babe, it turns out that despite all of it, everyone actually loves you too.”
Ransone, best known for his roles in The Wire, Generation Kill and It Chapter Two, died by suicide on Friday, December 19, per County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner records viewed by Us Weekly. He was 46.

On Sunday, December 21, McPhee broke her silence as news emerged of the actor’s death.
“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again,” she wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a photo of her and Ransone in which is visibly pregnant with one of the couple’s children.
McPhee continued, “You told me – I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me – and you were so right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts – you, Jack and Violet. We are forever.”
Family friend Natasha Lyonne commented on the post, “Love you with everything I got and holding our beloved brilliant peejo with grace gratitude and cosmic peace into this life and the next – family forever ♾️ beautiful jamie you are the best of us we love you.”
“Giving you the biggest virtual hug and I hope you are wrapped in warmth and love 💕 we got your back with whatever you need,” Julia Fox added.
