Tens of thousands of people were still without power Saturday morning after a rain and windstorm swept through the state.

Winds were expected to continue early Saturday, with the strongest gusts in open areas and at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

In a release, Versant Power said crews would be “out in full force first thing Saturday assessing damage and addressing outages.”

Downed lines will be the first priority, followed by restoring power to electrical circuits serving the most customers, the company said, urging customers to stay clear of downed lines or trees that are in contact with them.

The maps below show current power outages across Maine.

According to the weather service, gusty winds will gradually diminish throughout the day. High temperatures will range from the low to mid-20s in northern Maine to the upper 30s in Downeast Maine.

Colder temperatures could lead to icy conditions after Friday’s rain and melting snow.

Saturday night, a fast-moving front is expected to bring a couple of inches of snow to northern Maine.

Sunday is forecast to be breezy, with highs in the low to mid-30s in the north, where skies will be mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers. Along the coast, highs will be near 40 with mostly sunny skies.
