A Bangor man appeared in court Friday after he allegedly fled from police and led them on a foot chase through the woods.
Corey Paradise, 52, is charged with one felony count each of eluding an officer, operating after revocation and aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, as well as one misdemeanor count each of driving to endanger and failure to stop for an officer. He appeared Friday in Penobscot County Superior Court.
Bangor police attempted to pull Paradise over on Broadway around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday but he did not stop, according to a probable cause affidavit. Officer Brian Cronk started chasing Paradise and speeds reached 56 mph.
Paradise was swerving and endangering other drivers, the affidavit said.
Eventually Paradise pulled into a driveway in the 2000 block of Broadway and ran away on foot, the affidavit said. Cronk chased him through the woods, yelling at the man “Police, stop.” Paradise did not stop, the affidavit said.
The officer lost sight of Paradise but was able to follow his footprints in the snow, according to the affidavit. When the officer exited the woods on Pushaw Road, another officer had caught and arrested Paradise.
Paradise has 44 driving convictions, according to court records. He was wanted for an outstanding warrant, and was not supposed to be operating a vehicle, Bangor police said.
Paradise was granted a $5,000 bail. He was in the Penobscot County Jail at time of publication.
The Bangor chase happened roughly two hours before the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office chased a man along part of the same stretch of Broadway. That chase had speeds in excess of 100 mph.
