The sight of immigrants being rounded up by hooded U.S. ICE patrols is terrifying on so many levels. We hear of detention camps; we hear of vanished people; we see the violence and see the dread on the faces of detainees.

Jews in Germany were labeled vermin, non-humans before, during, and after World War II. Immigrants in the United States today are being similarly dehumanized, as they are called rapists, criminals and degenerates by the president and government officials.

Darkness is descending in our midst. To keep hope alive and light from being further eclipsed, people who love this country must be willing not only to say “Never again!” but be willing to fight for the freedom of all Americans and the immigrants who choose to live here with pride, dignity and courage despite all obstacles.

In Exodus 12:49: Jewish law recognizes no distinction in civil rights between native and alien. “Torah Ahat yiyeh la’ezrah v’lagar hagar b’tochichem — One law shall be to him that is home-born and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.”
