The two victims of a house fire in Palermo on Monday night have been identified.

The fire broke out about 11:25 p.m. at the Leeman Arm Road home, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames and a severely burned man in the road near the home, Moss said Tuesday morning.

The man has been identified as 45-year-old Gary Crane. He remains in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Moss.

The second victim of the fire was located Tuesday morning, Moss said mid-afternoon Tuesday. The body of a man whom officials believe is 64-year-old Gary Crane Sr. was transported to the Maine medical examiner’s office to positively determine his identity and confirm cause of death.

Investigators believe the blaze was set off by an explosion inside the home. The home had a propane gas supply for heat and appliances, according to officials.

The blaze remains under investigation.
