Boy Meets World alum Danielle Fishel is in high spirits nearly one year after completing treatment for breast cancer.
“I’m great. I mean, you still have regular doctor’s appointments when you’ve just had cancer a year before,” Fishel, 44, told People in an interview published on Tuesday, December 16. “I just had a recent appointment with my oncologist [and] everything’s good. We’re all clear.”
The actress announced in October 2024 that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and subsequently underwent two lumpectomies. Fishel also completed 20 rounds of radiation, which she finished in January of this year.
“I don’t have to have another mammogram until next June,” Fishel told the outlet. “I’m in a really good headspace, and I’m just so grateful that I have my health and that I have my family. I have a lot to be grateful for, especially this year.”
Danielle Fishel Didn’t Tell Her 2 Sons That She Had Breast Cancer
Fisher, who shares two sons with husband Jensen Karp, has since been living life to the fullest after completing treatment. Her cancer battle was even a driving factor in appearing on Dancing With the Stars season 34.
“When the call came in, it was the fastest ‘yes’ ever,” Fishel exclusively told Us Weekly in September. “After last year having cancer, I just realized, like, ‘I’m not having enough fun,’ or ‘I’m not experiencing enough joy.’ And the minute this call came in, it sounded like exactly that joy and fun wrapped up into a three-month experience.”
Fishel started training for DWTS with pro partner Pasha Pashkov a few months after her final round of radiation treatment.
“It’s been really, really remarkable. It’s pretty crazy, like, what a year can do,” Fishel told Us. “I remember this time last year, I was recovering from my second surgery and about to start radiation, and now this year, I’m incredibly healthy.”
She continued, “I feel really great, and I’m having the time of my life on the dance floor.”
Danielle Fishel Opens Up About ‘DWTS’ Training After Breast Cancer Battle
Fishel and Pashkov, 39, were eliminated during Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night last month — just shy of making it to the semi-finals.
“I have such a wide range of emotions,” Fishel recalled during a November 5 episode of her “Teen Beat” podcast. “My day to day life is going to drastically change now. [My final performance] couldn’t have gone any better. I’m so lucky, just so, so, so lucky that Pasha was my partner. I can say so many wonderful things about every single person on this cast.”
Fishel was especially close to the eventual season 34 winner, Robert Irwin.
“Absolutely gutted. Absolutely devastated,” Irwin, 21, exclusively told Us after Fishel’s elimination. “Amongst the contestants here on Dancing With the Stars, she’s the person I think I’ve grown closest to. I consider her one of my best friends in this experience, and she is the most authentic, genuine, incredible human being that leads with this sense of positivity.”
He continued, “She walks in the room and everybody is just lifted up. And the fact that she won’t be in the ballroom anymore, I am gutted, but I think she has pumped out so much positivity through our TV screens. I mean, she should be so proud of herself.”
