The University of Maine men’s basketball team only scored 17 points in the first half and wound up losing to Canisius University 70-43 on Saturday afternoon in Orono.
The tough loss followed the Black Bears only win thus far on the season, and dropped UMaine to 1-12 this year.
Khalil Singleton led all scorers Saturday with 20 points for Canisius, and senior forward Keelan Steele had 12 points to lead the way for UMaine.
The Black Bears shot a woeful 25.8 percent from the field in the first half and 31.4 percent from the game. UMaine also shot 50 percent from the free-throw line as their offensive struggles on the year continue.
Canisius is now 5-6 this season.
The 1-12 Black Bears got their first win of the year against Boston University on Dec. 10. UMaine next plays Drexel on Sunday, Dec. 21 in Philadelphia.
