Parts of Maine will see a mix of rain and snow Wednesday evening that will make roads messy during the evening commute.
Inland regions will likely see snow, before it mixes with rain and potential freezing rain by 5 or 6 p.m. The mountains and western Maine will likely see plowable snow through the afternoon and evening, with 5 to 8 inches expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Ice could accumulate on roads by the time travelers plan to drive home, and drivers are urged to use caution on roadways. Regions northwest of Interstate 95 could get up to 1/10th of an inch of ice accumulation, according to forecasters.
Central and eastern Maine is predicted to get anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow throughout the evening.
A winter weather advisory is in place for most of the state until early Thursday morning.
Heading into Thursday, scattered snow showers will move east, with the heaviest snow falling in the mountain regions and throughout western Maine.
Temperatures will be coldest Thursday in western Maine and The County, with daytime highs ranging through the mid-20s. The greater Bangor region and Piscataquis County can expect daytime highs in the mid-30s during the day Thursday.
At this point in time, mostly clear skies are expected throughout most of the state Friday and Saturday, although some wind gusts will add a wind chill to the mid-20 degree highs this weekend.
