The royal family might have had their biggest year yet in 2025.

From members losing their title to the end of a health battle and a long-awaited father-son reunion, the British monarchy made some pretty wild headlines all year long.

While Princess Kate Middleton officially ended her cancer journey early on in the year, that didn’t mean her health journey wasn’t still top of mind. Prince William reflected on his wife’s battle in an interview on Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveler. The Prince of Wales called 2024 the “hardest year of his life” due to his wife’s cancer diagnosis, but things definitely started to look up in 2025.

“It is a relief to now be in remission,” Kate announced in January. “And I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”

Initially, things for the royals appeared to be on an upswing at the start of the year, but they experienced some major ups and downs as the months rolled on.

Biggest Royal Family Scandals Through the Years

Keep scrolling to look back at the biggest royal family moments from 2025:

Kate Middleton Is Officially in Remission

The Princess of Wales surprised royal watchers on January 14 when she revealed that her cancer battle had come to an end. (Kate went public with her diagnosis in March 2024.)

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she shared via Instagram at the time. “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
Kate noted that she was excited about a “fulfilling year” in 2025. “There is much to look forward to,” she added.

Ivar Mountbatten Makes ‘The Traitors’ Debut

The royal family member made his reality TV debut on The Traitors when the third season of the Peacock show premiered on January 9. He is the first cousin once removed of the late Prince Philip, a third cousin once removed of the late Queen Elizabeth II and a second cousin of King Charles III.

After weeks of sussing out Traitors on the show, Ivar became one of four winners — alongside Dolores Catania, Dylan Efron and Gabby Windey — on March 6.

‘With Love, Meghan’ Premieres

Meghan Markle took over Netflix with her lifestyle content on March 5 when the first season of With Love, Meghan premiered. The show consisted of eight half-hour episodes featuring some major celebrity guests, — including Mindy Kaling — and a lot of discussion about Prince Harry.

The show returned in August for a second season and released an hour-long holiday special in December.

As Ever Launches

Nearly a month after her Netflix show launched, Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand went live with its first product drops. Some things sold out almost immediately, and once consumers started getting their goodies in the mail, there were mixed reviews.

Prince Harry’s Bombshell Interview

After Harry’s landmark loss in his April battle for government-funded security, the Duke of Sussex sat down for an interview with the BBC on May 2. Harry claimed during the interview that Charles “won’t speak” to him and said he hoped to smooth things over with his father.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

That Viral Dance Video

Harry and Meghan went viral in June after she posted a video of them dancing in a hospital room. The clip, set to Starrkeisha‘s “The Baby Momma Dance,” was taken before their daughter Princess Lilibet’s birth in June 2021.

Princess Anne’s Hair Breaks the Internet

When Princess Anne stepped out for the State Banquet at Windsor Castle on July 10, she broke the internet with a new hairstyle. Anne usually wears her hair in a signature bouffant, which has been her favorite look since the 1980s. This time around, she opted for a stunning twisted bun.

Kate Goes Blonde

September brought some more hair drama when Kate was spotted with what appeared to be blonde hair. Royal watchers went crazy when she debuted a honey blonde hair transformation on September 4 while stepping out at the National History Museum in London. Days later, she was back to her signature brunette, which confused fans — and received some backlash.

A Royal Reunion

When Harry traveled back to his home country in September, he met with his father for the first time in nearly two years. The closed-door meeting was a step in the right direction to heal the family rift.

“The meeting was sparked by a handwritten letter from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his desire to reconnect,” a source told Us Weekly exclusively at the time, noting that things were “super positive and very relaxed” between the two.

Prince Andrew Is Ousted From the Family

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor made headlines again for his connection to late billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. In October, the late Virginia Giuffre (who initially accused Andrew of sexual assault in 2019) posthumously published her memoir, which detailed several allegations against the former duke. He has continued to deny her allegations. (Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year.)

In the wake of the book’s release, Charles announced that he would officially be stripping Andrew of his royal titles and evicting him from his home.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” read a statement released on October 30. “His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.”

The statement continued, “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”

Breaking Down All the Drama Surrounding Prince Harry’s Recent Canada Trip

The Canada Drama

Harry’s November trip to Canada for Remembrance Day caused some royal family drama as it coincided with his brother William’s trip to Brazil. A royal expert claimed that Harry didn’t announce the trip beforehand as a dig to William — and a spokesperson for Team Sussex stepped in.

The rep denied speculation about Harry’s trip, noting that because he is not a working member of the royal family, the Duke of Sussex is “not afforded the same level of security and protection,” which means trips aren’t always announced in advance.

“The period of time in which we can release details of events is much more truncated than it is for His Majesty the King or the Prince of Wales,” the statement continued. “The events were planned nearly a year ago. The date of the main event, the dinner, is set by the charity, not Prince Harry.”

They added, “We are always guided — as to when we can announce trips like this, by the advice given to us by his private security advisers and the event’s security team.”

Thomas Markle’s Illness

On December 2, news broke that Meghan’s father had been hospitalized and was in intensive care. Days later, her brother, Thomas Jr., confirmed that Thomas Sr.’s left leg had been amputated. Meghan has since reached out to her father, a rep confirmed to Us.
