Not a day goes by, it seems, where we don’t hear about yet another Washington, D.C., politician headed for the exits. If you thought there was a fire alarm sounding, you wouldn’t be far off. There is a disaster unfolding. An arson in progress of our most cherished ideals.
It appears we’re on the cusp of yet another endless oil war, murdering civilians along the way. Masked men and soldiers roam American streets. We’ve alienated our close allies. Imposed taxes without representation. Every week an executive branch that expects subservience from courts and elected officials issues new, disturbing edicts.
The People’s House has been demolished.
Thirty-nine members of Congress are not seeking reelection. More are expected. These aren’t disciplined folks accepting self-imposed term limits. They’re fleeing the scene of a historic crime. Maine’s 2nd Congressional District Rep. Jared Golden is one of them.
It is hard to disagree that change in our dysfunctional system wasn’t necessary. But this is not governance. I think this is a wholesale abdication of duty. The way those in D.C. either lit the fire, fanned the flames, or stood by to watch our democracy burn is a travesty.
They can flee, but true Americans will remember the collaborators and the cowards alike. I believe it is far past time to impeach this regime and every incompetent appointee our cowed and absent legislators advanced.
Do us a favor on your way out the door, Golden. Help put out the fire.
