Brunswick police arrested two men early Monday morning for allegedly hunting deer at night.

The incident started when a Brunswick police officer pulled over a vehicle on Pleasant Hill Road for “several” traffic violations shortly before 2 a.m., the department said in a news release.

The officer saw a crossbow in the front seat and two dead deer in the rear hatch, the department said.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Lee Holbrook, 36, of Durham, allegedly told the officer the deer had just been shot from inside his vehicle.

Police said they learned a second suspect was involved then followed fresh footprints in the snow and located Robert Little, 36, of Lewiston, on Pleasant Street.

Both men were arrested.

Hobrook was charged with operating after suspension, having a loaded crossbow inside a motor vehicle, night hunting, illegal possession of wild animals, hunting without a license, unlawful discharge of archery equipment, and unlawful use of artificial lights. He is being held at Cumberland County Jail.

Little was charged with night hunting, and unlawful discharge of archery equipment. He was summonsed to appear in West Bath District Court on Feb. 3, 2026, and released.

The two illegally harvested deer were provided to the Maine Warden Service to be given to local food pantries, police said.
