After major delays — and a time jump — Euphoria is finally coming back for season 3.

HBO confirmed that the third and final season will premiere in April 2026 as. creator Sam Levinson offered a glimpse into the upcoming story lines.

“We basically pick up Rue [Zendaya] south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie [Martha Kelly], trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off,” he revealed in a press release. Euphoria last aired in 2022, so in case you don’t recall: Rue ended season 2 sober but in debt to a drug dealer who previously threatened her with human trafficking.

Others will be going through even bigger changes.

Which ‘Euphoria’ Characters Are — and Aren’t — Returning for Season 3

“And then Cassie [Sydney Sweeney] is living in the suburbs with Nate [Jacob Elordi],” he added. “They’re engaged and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living at this point in time.”

Levinson promised the “best season yet” after the controversial couple wrecked havoc on season 2, sharing, “I will say that Cassie and Nate do in fact get married. I’m confirming it. And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night.”

Hunter Schafer’s Jules will be “in art school, very nervous about having a career as a painter and trying to avoid responsibility at all costs.” Maddy (Alexa Demie), meanwhile, is “working in Hollywood at a talent agency for a manager, she’s obviously got her own side hustles going.”

Lexi (Maude Apatow) has found success as “an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone, who is just absolutely delightful and a true icon,” Levinson concluded.

Euphoria, which premiered in 2019, originally followed troubled high school student Rue as she struggled to remain sober after rehab. The hit HBO series was quickly renewed for a second season after its premiere, but it took nearly three years for the episodes to air, with the network ordering two individual specials about the aftermath of Rue and Jules’ breakup in the meantime.

Season 3 was originally set to air on HBO in 2025 before facing several obstacles, including Levinson’s commitment to his short-lived series The Idol. The dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which took place in late 2023, prolonged the delay.

When Is ‘Euphoria’ Coming Back? What the Cast Has Said About Season 3 Amid Delays

“We’ve been through strikes before, you know, they increase the cost,” HBO CEO Casey Bloys said in November 2023 about production costs potentially increasing as a result. “I don’t see a scenario where I go, ‘Well, I was going to make another tentpole show, but now I’m not going to because we have to pay X amount more.’ I don’t think it works like that.”

Production was ultimately delayed again without an official start date at the time. “HBO and [creator] Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” a spokesperson for the network told Us Weekly in March. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Euphoria ultimately went into production on what will be the show’s final season. In addition to the onscreen shifts, the cast went through a loss when Angus Cloud died at age 25 in July 2023 following an accidental overdose. The show is expected to address the fate of his character, Fezco.

Euphoria is currently streaming on HBO.
