A Charlton Athletic fan has died after a medical emergency at their ground, the football club have said.
The side’s EFL Championship match against Portsmouth at The Valley was halted in the 12th minute while the supporter initially received treatment, and was subsequently postponed.
In a statement, the club said it was “devastated” at the fan’s passing, and thanked the staff and first responders who did everything they could during the incident.
“The club are grateful to supporters in attendance and the Portsmouth players and staff for their patience and understanding as this tragedy unfolded.
“Everyone at the club sends their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Portsmouth also paid tribute with a statement on their website.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with their family and friends at this difficult time.”

The EFL posted on X: “Our deepest condolences go out to the supporter’s family, friends and all @CAFCofficial
at this incredibly difficult time,” followed by a love heart emoji.
