Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau traveled to Japan for an official engagement, where they met with the country’s former prime minister.
“Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner, Katy Perry, and had lunch with us,” Fumio Kishida wrote via Instagram on Thursday, December 4. “During my time as Prime Minister, I met Prime Ministers many times, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the Nikka Action Plan. I am glad that we are continuing this friendship.”
Kishida, 68, further gushed that Trudeau, 53, “still remains strong” in his support.
“Canada is an extremely important partner to Japan in all areas of politics, security, economics, culture, etc.,” Kishida concluded. “We will continue to work hard for friendship and cooperation between Japan and Canada.”
Justin Trudeau Announces Separation From Wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau
Fumio, who stepped down as prime minister in 2024, sported a classic suit for the occasion as his wife, Yuko Kishida, opted for a floral dress underneath a navy blazer.
Trudeau, for his part, looked dapper in a beige suit, which complemented Perry’s brown cropped jacket and miniskirt. The pop star, 41, completed her ensemble with a black turtleneck and matching ankle boots.
Perry and Trudeau, the former prime minister of Canada, were first linked in July on the heels of their respective splits. Justin divorced ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023, while Perry and actor Orlando Bloom called off their longtime engagement this summer.
“They’ve decided to be much more private about it,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in September about Perry’s romance with Justin. “[They] are very interested in each other.”
A second insider further told Us that Justin “made plans to see” Perry in between her Lifetimes Tour performances.
“Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating,” the second source added.
Weeks later in October, Perry and Justin were spotted holding hands in Paris on a special date night for her birthday.
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s Relationship Timeline
“Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,” a third source told Us in October. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship. Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.”
While neither Perry nor Justin have publicly addressed their relationship, the “Hot N Cold” singer briefly mentioned her love life during a recent concert.
“This guy is trying to get me to marry him and he has a ring in his hand,” Perry quipped during her October 30 concert in Prague. “No! I am dating someone else for crying out f***ing loud.”
In addition to her blossoming romance, Perry has prioritized amicably coparenting daughter Daisy Dove, 5, with Bloom, 48.
“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” reps for the now-exes told Us in a joint July statement. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
Bloom also shares eldest son Flynn with his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr.
