Gwyneth Paltrow accidentally mistook Marty Supreme costar Timothée Chalamet’s makeup for bad skin — and offered up some unsolicited advice.
“In Marty Supreme, Timothée has pockmarks, and they made his eyes beady with contacts and glasses,” Paltrow, 53, said during the Tuesday, December 2, episode of The Run-Through With Vogue. “And it’s all makeup.”
Paltrow explained that after Chalamet made a “comment” about his skin while playing the movie’s titular character, she jumped at the chance to help.
“I was like, ‘Oh, you know, you can do micro-needling for that,’” she recalled. “And he’s like, ‘This is makeup!’ I was like, ‘Oh, s***.’ I didn’t realize. The makeup was so good that I thought he had little acne scars.”

The Oscar-winner pointed out that in real life, Chalamet actually has “beautiful skin,” noting that “in real life, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”
Paltrow noted that she was fooled because never needed to alter her look for a role. “I’ve never done anything like that where I’m really transformed in the face,” she said.
Marty Supreme, which hits theaters on Christmas Day, is directed by Josh Safdie and centers on a fictionalized version of real-life ping-pong champion Marty Reisman. The film is set in 1950s New York City and follows Marty’s chaotic journey as he schemes his way into table tennis tournaments in the hopes of pursuing greatness. Tyler, the Creator, Fran Drescher, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary and Sandra Bernhard also star.
Paltrow, for her part, portrays movie star Kay Stone, a love interest of Reisman’s who, according to Paltrow, is already “married to someone in the ping-pong mafia.” She and Chalamet were first spotted filming together in Central Park October 2024, where they were spotted sharing a passionate kiss for the cameras.
During a March interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow teased that she and Chalamet have “a lot” of sex scenes together in the film. When asked by the outlet if she was put in “vulnerable positions” for the movie, she replied, “Beyond.”
Still, Paltrow insisted that she wasn’t interested in having an intimacy coordinator around for the intimate moments, saying she wasn’t aware the job “existed” until being cast as Kay.
Once on set, she recalled the Marty Supreme intimacy coordinator asking if she’d be comfortable with a particular move, prompting to her to reply, “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.’”
Ultimately, the costars chose to lean away from using any assistance.

“We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back,’” Paltrow recalled to the outlet. “I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but … if someone is like, ‘OK, and then he’s going to put his hand here’ — she lays a milky-manicured hand on her own shoulder — ‘I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.’”
As for what the experience was for Paltrow “simulating all that sex” with 29-year-old Chalamet, “I was like, ‘OK, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14,’” Paltrow quipped.
Marty Supreme hits theaters nationwide Thursday, December 25.
