ROCKLAND, Maine — The school bus that was operated in the Nov. 21 death of Brayden Callahan has been decommissioned, the superintendent announced Sunday.
“Bus 9 has been decommissioned. The bus taking that route will be Bus 3 and will have a substitute driver. The route will remain the same. We will have multiple counselors available on that bus tomorrow morning. We have been working with the Department of Education on a plan to have a replacement bus in our fleet up and running soon, and we appreciate their quick response in supporting us in this effort,” Superintendent John McDonald said in an email message to families.
“We will continue to have increased counseling available for students and staff by welcoming back some of our partners that supported us last week, particularly at the middle school and South School. Children taking the bus in the morning will be greeted by their driver and a volunteer staff member who will ride along for the morning bus run,” McDonald said.
“We would like to again express our appreciation for the caring community partners who have offered their remarkable support. We remain deeply thankful for the strength of our Midcoast community,” the superintendent concluded.
