The hostility to foreigners implied by the new higher entrance fee to Acadia National Park (and other national parks too) for non-U.S. citizens is a horror that should be protested. I am sure the National Park Service professionals are most unhappy about the message this sends but have their hands tied by decision-makers in Washington. Acadia needs to be creative in controlling the number of visitors to protect the visitor experience, but I think extorting foreigners is a terrible way to do it.
The higher fee is very bad for people visiting from all nations other than the U.S., but I am particularly upset about Canadians, neighbors with whom we have such a close relationship. Occasionally, I visit Canadian parks. Next time I do, I wonder whether the welcome will be chilly.
