Angela Bassett was surprised her daughter, Bronwyn Vance, was interested in the 2025 Le Bal des Débutantes.
During an interview with Hello! Magazine, published on Saturday, November 29, Bassett, 67, admitted Bronwyn’s involvement “felt a little out of the blue initially.”
“I wouldn’t think it a normal occurrence to be vetted and invited onto a world stage at such an age,” Bassett continued, referring to her 19-year-old daughter.
According to Bassett, there were “no trepidations whatsoever,” and she “was swept away” by Bronwyn’s involvement.
“Bronwyn has a spirit of graciousness,” Bassett added. “She is at ease and seeks to put others at ease in whatever situation she finds herself.”
Angela Bassett’s Daughter Bronwyn Makes Her Debut at Le Bal des Debutantes
Bassett shares Bronwyn and her twin brother, Slater Vance, with husband Courtney B. Vance.
Ahead of the event, which took place Saturday at the Shangri-La Paris hotel, Bronwyn opened up about how she stepped into the debutante world.
“I love fashion and feeling like a princess, and this seemed like something I would love,” Bronwyn told Hello! “I also recognized some of the girls who did it years prior and knew if they were doing it, it was a great event.”
Bassett and husband Courtney, 65, both attended the ball in support of their daughter. Courtney even shared a special dance with Bronwyn. Slater was also involved in Saturday’s event, acting as his sister’s cavalier, or escort.
“I thought it would be less pressure to have my brother and built-in best friend,” Bronwyn said of her brother, noting that their photos will “last for a lifetime.”
The twins have been navigating some distance from each other — and their parents — since deciding to attend separate colleges on the East Coast. While Bronwyn is currently studying at Harvard University in Massachusetts, Slater decided to attend Yale University in Connecticut.
“Distance doesn’t make us any less close,” Bronwyn explained, speculating that the separation is “good for us and our careers going forward.”
A Guide to Angela Bassett’s Family: Husband Courtney B. Vance, 2 Kids
Bassett told Hello! that her kids’ relationship is a “blessing,” especially now that they are “in a phase of self-discovery” while adjusting to the early stages of adulthood.
When it came to making her debut on Saturday, Bronwyn recalled meeting the other debutantes just before the event.
“We talked about how some of the girls don’t know their cavaliers yet and how we were so hungry while doing the photoshoots and interviews all day today,” she said. “I’m excited to meet all the cavaliers, but from what I’ve heard they’re all very handsome and funny!”
Other celebrity kids have appeared in Le Bal des Débutantes over the years. Last year’s event included Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter, Apple Martin.
Margaret Qualley, Lori Harvey, Lily Collins, Scout and Tallulah Willis, plus Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s daughter, Ava Phillippe, have also been debutantes at the ball in years past.
While Bronwyn was looking forward to “seeing all the photos” after Saturday’s event, there was one thing she was even more excited about.
“I’ve been watching what I eat and working out every day just for this,” she said. “I must get some oily unhealthy meal right after the ball!”
