
A snowstorm predicted to hit the state on Tuesday has prompted a number of closures and delays for businesses and schools across the state.
According to the National Weather Service, coastal and interior Down East regions, as well as the Penobscot Valley region, can expect to see anywhere between 4 and 8 inches of snowfall starting Tuesday morning and extending into Wednesday.
South central, southwest and western Maine regions are expected to see total snowfall accumulations between 6 and 9 inches, according to weather service forecasters.
Although daytime temperatures will mostly stay below freezing, a mix of rain could move into coastal and Down East areas throughout the evening, creating messy travel conditions.
Along with snowfall, conditions are expected to be windy across the state Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph.
Maine’s northernmost regions in Aroostook County are expected to see slightly less snowfall Tuesday, with anywhere between 1 and 3 inches of precipitation north of Millinocket, according to forecasters.
Travel will be impacted Tuesday morning, especially in southern and coastal communities, and drivers are asked to use care on the roadways. Officials also advise to pack an emergency kit when traveling during inclement weather.
