
As Maine’s housing market begins to slow for winter, homes are still changing hands in Ellsworth.
The cost of housing in the coastal community has nearly doubled from where rates stood before the pandemic, and asking prices don’t appear to be coming down yet. But, real estate sales are still happening despite the higher fees and limited inventory.
Here are three homes in Ellsworth that agents from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate The Masiello Group sold in November.
All are single-family houses with an average selling price of slightly more than $283,000, which is less than the price of an average home in Ellsworth, which sat at nearly $346,000 as of Wednesday.

195 Surry Rd.
Built in 1997, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch sits on nearly 60 acres but is just a five-minute drive from downtown Ellsworth.
With more than 1,300 square feet of living space, the property was initially listed for $549,000, but sold for $500,000 on Nov. 14.
Aside from the sprawling piece of land the home sits on, the house features a large wraparound porch, a detached two-car garage and full basement with built-in shelving. The property also abuts land protected by the Blue Hill Heritage Trust, with nearby trails for year-round recreation.

28 Central St.
This one-bedroom, one-bathroom cape-style home sits on a .1-acre lot next to the Union River, a short walk from downtown Ellsworth.
The 988-square-foot home sold on Nov. 7 for $175,000, less than its initial asking price of $184,500.
The home’s charming touches include a clawfoot soaking tub, pellet stove and a bonus room that could be used as a reading nook, craft space or to meet another need.

14 Chapel St.
Built in 1900, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom fixer-upper sold for $175,000, well under its asking price of $189,000.
The New Englander-style home has nearly 1,700 square feet of living space and sits on .3-acres around the corner from downtown Ellsworth.
While parts of the house need some work and it was vacant for more than a year before selling, it’s full of historic charm and potential. The property also includes an expansion over the attached garage that was originally designed to be a separate living space.
