The high school basketball season is at our doorstep, and that means another year of rivalry games that pack gyms and energize entire communities.
The Bangor Daily News will once again be along for the ride, and we want to know which of those rivalries you most look forward to each year.
Those rivalries can take on many forms.
Sometimes teams have battled against each other for generations, and sometimes newer rivalries take shape.
Sometimes there is a shared respect between longtime foes, and sometimes towns just don’t like each other very much.
But without fail, each year, geography and shared history conspire to give Maine basketball fans a long list of intense matchups that light up the court and electrify the stands.
Even as statewide reclassification has altered divisions and schedules, the hype surrounding certain matchups is guaranteed to endure — and perhaps even deepen in cases where longtime rivals, once separated by different classes, find themselves back in the same division again.
We know that players, coaches, parents, administrators and fans have already marked their calendars for certain marquee matchups, waiting intently for when rivals get to clash once more on the hardwood. And we want to be at those gyms and in those communities, experiencing the rivalries first-hand and sharing them with readers.
As the BDN sports team maps out our plans for the winter, we want to hear from the people and communities who make those rivalries so special. We want to know which rivalry games you think deserve a place among the state’s best, and which ones we should be covering as another exciting basketball season unfolds.
We want coaches, players, parents and fans telling us which games matter the most to them and their communities. Now’s your chance to help shape our high school basketball coverage in the coming months, so please don’t be shy.
