Freshman goalie Mathis Rousseau stopped 21 shots to register his first career shutout and freshman right wing Miguel Marques scored a pair of goals as the University of Maine’s hockey team snapped Boston College’s five-game winning streak with a 3-0 victory at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Saturday night.

UMaine freshman defenseman Jeremy Langlois suffered a possible concussion when he fell into the boards and had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher with 8:46 left in the game.

Rousseau, starting in place of the struggling Albin Boija, made five saves in the first period, four in the second and 12 in the third period. It was his first appearance since an 8-5 win over Boston University on Nov. 1.

No. 10 UMaine salvaged a split of the series after losing 7-3 to the No. 15 Eagles on Friday night. UMaine, which had won just one of its previous eight games at Conte Forum (1-6-1), improved to 8-5-1 overall and 5-3 in Hockey East while BC is now 7-5-1 and 5-3, respectively.

Marques, the reigning Hockey East Rookie of the Week, staked UMaine to a 1-0 lead just 1:32 into the game with his fifth goal of the season and junior right wing Josh Nadeau expanded the lead later in the period with a shorthanded goal. That was his eighth of the campaign.

Marques, a third round draft pick of the Nashville Predators and the 87th overall pick in 2024, notched his second at the 8:53 mark of the third period. It is the first two-goal game of his career.

On his first goal, Marques capitalized on an Eagle miscue to give the Black Bears the only goal they were to need. A Boston College defenseman made an errant pass from behind his own net that landed right on the stick of Marques between the faceoff circles in the low slot and he wasted no time, wristing the puck past freshman goalie Louka Cloutier.

Nadeau expanded the lead at the 11:10 mark courtesy of a great pass from Charlie Russell.

He sprinted through the neutral zone to chase down a loose puck along the left wing boards in the BC zone. He curled back and fired a cross-ice pass to the wide open Nadeau at the far post and Nadeau just had to tap it past Cloutier for his second shorthanded goal of the campaign and UMaine’s fourth.

That ties UMaine for third-most in the country.

Marques supplied UMaine with an insurance goal in the third period when he fired home the rebound of a Sully Scholle shot. Thomas Freel also assisted on the goal.

BC outshot UMaine 21-19. Cloutier wound up with 16 saves.

UMaine will have next weekend off before entertaining arch-rival New Hampshire on Dec. 5-6 at 7 p.m. Boston College will host Notre Dame in a non-conference game on Friday at 1.
