Princess Kate Middleton shared a special moment with singer Jessie J at the Royal Variety Performance in London.
Kate, 43, and the musician, 37, were photographed hugging during the event held at Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, November 19. Jessie later revealed that the women were able to bond over their respective experiences battling cancer.
“Mum to mum, who has just recently gone through cancer, I just wanted to give her a hug,” Jessie said, per The Independent.
The “Price Tag” singer added, “We acknowledged that it’s something that is not easy to go through, especially in the public eye.”

Wednesday’s event was hosted by comedian Jason Manford and benefitted the Royal Variety Charity, supporting entertainment industry workers experiencing mental health struggles. Jessie was slated to perform, along with Icelandic singer Laufey and the casts of Paddington the Musical and Les Misérables.

Kate stepped out in a stunning green velvet gown by Talbot Runhof paired with long chandelier earrings. She was joined by her husband, Prince William, who looked dapper in a black velvet tuxedo. It was the couple’s first appearance at the Royal Variety Performance in two years.
The Princess of Wales has reentered the royal world after taking a step back from her public duties in the wake of her cancer diagnosis. She revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of the disease.
By September 2024, Kate announced that her chemotherapy treatment was completed. She revealed in January that her cancer is in remission.
“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she noted in an Instagram post at the time. “We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

Kate told her followers that she felt “relief” about her remission and was “focused on recovery,” adding, “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
Jessie, meanwhile, revealed in June that she was “diagnosed with early breast cancer.” She underwent surgery later that month and was due for a second operation in October, but the procedure was “postponed.”
“A week before my surgery I went to my surgeon and we discussed my surgery and it felt a little more complex than he was anticipating and referred me to a different surgeon who I then saw, had a meeting with who said: I think this can wait a little while,” Jessie told fans via Instagram last month, noting that she felt “frustrated” because she canceled a tour in order to recover from the surgery. “But again, it’s out of my control and two different surgeons had two different opinions.”
Earlier this month, Jessie shared another health update in a social media photo dump, writing, “5 months since my surgery and still very much in recovery and trying to learn and deepen my understanding on why and how to do what I can for it to not come back.”
