The mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is keeping the faith as her son’s team fights tooth-and-nail to make the playoffs.

Randi Mahomes responded to a hopeful message about the team via X on Tuesday, November 18.

“I still believe in our Chiefs 🙏,” a fan wrote alongside a picture of Patrick, 30, with text reading: “Don’t give up on the Chiefs yet.”

Randi, 49, responded, “Me too.”

Travis Kelce Refused to Talk to Reporters After Chiefs’ Loss to Broncos

The messages of optimism came on the heels of the Chiefs’ 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, November 16, which dropped them to 5-5 on the season.

Kansas City is currently three games behind AFC West-leading Denver in the loss column and sits on the outside of the AFC playoff picture.

Patrick and the Chiefs have never missed the playoffs since he took over as starting quarterback in 2018. ESPN’s prediction model currently has Kansas City with a 44.6 percent chance to miss the postseason.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was perceived to give Patrick a slight shove under the bus when discussing the Denver loss with the media on Monday, November 17.

“We’re calling quite a few of the [run-pass options],” Reid, 67, said of the Chiefs’ play calling. “Yesterday, they were giving us opportunities to throw the football. So we utilized the opportunities there.”

Reid continued, “The runs are being called. Sometimes they get turned into passes in today’s world. That’s how it goes.”

In essence, Reid explained that the discrepancy between the Chiefs’ passing and rushing plays against the Broncos could partially be chalked up to Patrick choosing to pass when he was given both options.

Kansas City only ran the ball 14 times for a total of 62 yards against Denver. Conversely, Patrick was 29-for-45 passing with one touchdown — a record-setting throw to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — and one interception.

Speaking to the media after the game, Patrick put much of the blame for the loss on his shoulders.

“I think we’re really talented and we’ve got a lot of great players, but it’s about being more consistent,” he said. “I think it starts with me. There’s times where I’m firing and we’re moving the ball down the field at ease. But there’s times where we go in spurts where I miss a throw or a [pass] protection call.”

He added, “We haven’t been consistent enough to win games. It starts with me.”

Travis Kelce Taunts Much Shorter Broncos Player in Another Chiefs Loss

Patrick admitted that “it’s going to be tough to get back in the division race,” after losing to the Broncos, but insisted a path to making a fourth-consecutive Super Bowl is still there.

“The goal is to get into the playoffs and try to make a run at it,” Patrick said. “We’ve got to learn from this one as much as possible, knowing we’re going to get a great opponent coming into Arrowhead [Stadium] next week.”

Kansas City hosts Daniel Jones and the surprising Indianapolis Colts (8-2) on Sunday, November 23.

Patrick added, “We’re kind of at that point where we’ve got to find a way to win games.”
