The University of Maine women’s basketball team is just getting its current season underway, but the Black Bears have already announced two new signings for next year.

The team is bringing in two new guards as part of the 2026 recruiting class, UMaine announced in a Wednesday press release.

Ayla Corrigale of Ontario, Canada and Ava Sewall of Annandale, Virginia will be heading to Orono next season to join the Black Bears.

“We are very excited to announce the signings of Ava and Ayla,” UMaine head coach Amy Vachon said in the announcement. “Both are amazing young women who will add to our program on and off the court.”

Corrigale is a 5-foot-7 guard who was a first-team all-star for Team Ontario a year ago, when she averaged 12 points, six assists and three steals.

“Ayla is a true point guard,” Vachon said. “She sees the floor very well and plays with a little flair that is fun to watch. She has a high basketball IQ and competes every possession.”

Sewall stands at 5-foot-9 and has averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks through her three high school seasons so far.

“Ava is a strong guard who can play a variety of positions,” Vachon added. “She is a great shooter and can score at all three levels. Ava is also a strong and versatile defender.”

The Black Bears are 1-3 to start this season after beating Stonehill on Monday night. UMaine next plays Brown at 12 p.m. Sunday in Providence, Rhode Island.
