Zac Efron made his first-ever appearance in the Dancing With the Stars ballroom in support of his brother Dylan Efron’s semi-finals routines — and, unsurprisingly, caused a complete frenzy with fans.
Dylan, 33, and pro partner Daniella Karagach first performed a tango to Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” during the Tuesday, November 18, live show. At the end of the pair’s routine, cameras kept panning to Dylan’s family and friends in the ballroom — where Zac, 38, sat with younger sister Olivia, 5, perched on his lap.
After Dylan and Karagach, 32, found out that they received three 9’s from the judges for their tango, they promptly celebrated from the skybox. At the same time, cameras panned back to Zac, who whispered to his mom seated next to him before starting a round of applause.
While it’s not known exactly what Zac said, lip-readers on social media have debated the High School Musical star’s commentary with a handful of viewers thinking that Zac asked, “Are those good scores?” (Dylan and Karagach earned a 27 out of 30, which would objectively be considered a “good score” since they are situated toward the top of the leaderboard, Zac.)
Dylan Efron Tears Up Over ‘Selfless’ Brother Zac on ‘DWTS’ Dedication Night
“Oh Zac has no idea where he is,” one X user wrote, with another adding, “He’s smiling through the confusion. Bless his heart.”
A third social media user chimed in, “Bro is cheering like he just guessed the right answer on a game show.”
Other fans, meanwhile, believed that Zac wasn’t asking whether Dylan’s 27 was “a good score.”
“I thought he said that as well but upon further investigation and inquiring to my investigative team,” a separate X user wrote, referring to an unidentified group of fellow fans. “We believe with 98% accuracy, he asked ‘Is that their high score?’”
In addition to attending the live show, Zac also made it clear that he was voting for his brother to make it to next week’s finale.
Dylan Efron Says Using Zac’s Song for DWTS’ Dedication Night ‘Made Sense’
“Vote for @dylanefron tonight on DWTS!” Zac wrote via his Instagram Stories earlier on Tuesday. “Text ‘Dylan’ to 21523 ten times.”
As for Dylan, he was grateful that his whole family showed up to support his dance pursuit.
“It means everything. I grew up watching him do stuff like this,” Dylan told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday night after surviving elimination yet again. “Looking over, my family’s there, my girlfriend. Just seeing all of them together, that’s my support.”
The former Traitors winner has long had Zac’s support in the ballroom even from afar.
“My brother is supportive,” Dylan exclusively told Us Weekly in September. “He’s like, ‘The best part is going to be those live shows.’ He was saying, like, it’s such a good feeling.”
Dylan Efron Breaks Silence on Brother Zac’s Absence From ‘DWTS’ Ballroom
Weeks later, Dylan and Olivia honored Zac’s movie The Greatest Showman when they performed together on Dedication Night.
“This is a nod to my brother,” Dylan said during a confessional last month of picking Zac’s “Rewrite the Stars” for the routine. “Zac’s always taken care of me and he did things that were so selfless. I wanna be that to Olivia, I wanna be the best role model I can.”
So, perhaps Zac was merely asking on Tuesday when Dylan was planning to dance to his song again?
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
