Two people were found dead after officials with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office discovered the scene of a crash in Livermore on Monday evening.
The crash at the 1800 Block of Federal Road was discovered shortly after 10:30 p.m. According to officials, the blue 2013 Audi Q5 most likely left the roadway before hitting a mailbox, clipping a utility pole and then becoming airborne before striking a second utility pole.
When the vehicle struck the second utility pole, wires came down and the power was knocked out in that area of Livermore until around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday when Central Maine Power fixed the damaged lines.
After striking the power lines, the vehicle crashed into a tree, ejecting the two passengers, according to officials. Both people, who are not being identified at this time, died at the scene of the crash.
Federal Road, which was closed to all traffic from Route 108 in Livermore to Route 219 in Turner, has been reopened.
It is not clear if the crash was connected to an earlier high-speed chase that occurred on Route 4. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office discovered the crashed Audi after abandoning the pursuit of a vehicle that had been driving speeds higher than 100 mph.
