Prince Harry’s recent trip to Canada made more than one headline — but what really went down?
The Duke of Sussex flew to Canada earlier this month to attend several of the country’s Remembrance Day events supporting veterans. One of the biggest events he attended was the True Patriot Love National Tribute Dinner on November 6.
Harry’s trip coincided with his brother Prince William’s jaunt to Brazil to announce his Earthshot Prize finalists at the COP30 climate summit. While William’s travels were reported beforehand, Harry’s appeared to be a last-minute addition to his schedule.
Some royal watchers claimed this was a shot at William. However, Harry’s team shut down any rumors with a statement that claimed the palace had been informed of the duke’s trip. But now, it seems that might not be the case.

While Harry and William’s respective Canada and Brazil trips have appeared to further the royal family drama, that’s not the only situation the Duke of Sussex had to discuss during his recent travels.

The William Backlash
When rumors started swirling that Harry’s Canada trip had been scheduled to outshine William, a spokesperson from Team Sussex stepped in.
They explained that Harry’s trips are announced last minute because the Duke of Sussex is “not afforded the same level of security and protection as other working members of the Royal Family,” per a statement published by the Daily Mail on November 4.
“It means therefore, that the period of time in which we can release details of events is much more truncated than it is for His Majesty the King or the Prince of Wales,” the statement continued. “The events were planned nearly a year ago. The date of the main event, the dinner, is set by the charity, not Prince Harry.”
Harry “can’t choose to move those dates” the spokesperson explained. “We are always guided — as to when we can announce trips like this, by the advice given to us by his private security advisers and the event’s security team.”
Team Sussex concluded with a note that Harry’s return to Canada had months full of planning, and shared that Toronto “has a special place” in his heart because of the 2017 Invictus Games.
The Baseball of It All
Harry gave an apology of another type while in Canada after wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during a Toronto Blue Jays World Series game alongside wife Meghan Markle.
“Firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it. Secondly, I was under duress,” he told a local news outlet on November 6. Harry joked that the situation was called “hatgate” and explained himself further.

“I was invited to the L.A. Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself,” he added. “So, I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.”
The Dodgers beat the Blue Jays in the World Series on November 1, days after Harry was photographed at the game.
What Happened Next
People reported on November 16 that the palace was surprised by Harry’s trip to Canada earlier this month. This dredged the rumored situation between Harry and William back into the public eye, weeks after their respective travels.
