Maine is expanding its recall of cannabis vapes because of unsafe pesticide levels.
This recall now targets four strains of Yani vape cartridges produced by NorCO Outdoor Cannabis, according to the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy.
The four strains are “Watermelon Chimera,” “Apples & Bananas,” “Cherry Tartufo” and “Lemon Cherry Pie.” The initial recall just targeted Watermelon Chimera.
That came after a consumer complaint about an adverse reaction, and further testing revealed unsafe levels of the pesticide Chlorfenapyr, the office said.
Inhaling Chlorfenapyr can cause high fever, sweating, nausea, vomiting and altered mental states, according to the cannabis office.
The vapes were sold at stores in Auburn, Augusta, Bangor, Bethel, Carrabassett Valley, Chelsea, Damariscotta, Eliot, Fairfield, Guilford, Lewiston, Milo, Peru, Portland, Presque Isle, Stratton, Thomaston and Waterville.
Anyone who has purchased Watermelon Chimera 0.5 gram live resin and 1 gram live resin vape cartridges with the batch number 1A40D0300006145000011115 between July 10 and Oct. 16 should return them to the retailer or throw them away.
Anyone who has purchased Apples & Bananas 0.5 gram live resin and 1 gram live resin vape cartridges with the batch number 1A40D0300005B69000000896 between April 15 and Oct. 23 should return them to the retailer or throw them away.
Anyone who has purchased Cherry Tartufo 0.5 gram live resin and 1 gram live resin vape cartridges with the batch number 1A40D0300006145000011114 between July 1 and Oct. 23 should return them to the retailer or throw them away.
Anyone who has purchased Lemon Cherry Pie 0.5 gram live resin and 1 gram live resin vape cartridges with the batch number 1A40D0300005B69000000715 between March 10 and Oct. 10 should return them to the retailer or throw them away.
The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy issued its first recall in September 2024 for pre-roll strains called GG-4 and Portal and the pre-roll and cannabis flower strain Jelly Donutz from the company Cannabis Cured. A second recall targeted pre-ground cannabis flower, pre-rolls and blunts of the strain Frosted Cookies from Nova Farms. That recall was expanded to include more of Nova Farms’ pre-ground cannabis flower, pre-rolls and blunts of the Frosted Cookies strain, as well as pre-ground flower of the Frozay strain. A third recall was issued for a strain of cannabis flower called The Soap produced by Leb City Greeneries.
This is the fourth recall issued for recreational cannabis in Maine and the first this year.
