The elderly and/or those in the final stage of life should want to thank the compassionate voters of Maine for protecting and preserving our very secure voting system here in Maine, that allows and helps so many of us to legally register to vote and cast our absentee ballots. It is difficult to understand why such a great, respected Maine system that serves a large block of patriotic voters is such a threat to and major target of the Republican Party, who seemingly wish to destroy it with conspiracy theories and casting seeds of doubt. Is there any reason beyond fear?
If — and that is a mighty big if — there is such a thing as wisdom, it is possible that some have a teeny bit in the later years of life; certainly not in the earlier years in my experience. Native Americans respect the elderly and give them special credit for having been well educated and schooled by a long life.
This citizen initiative went way beyond the ID question when it ended with such an open-ended statement as “and make other changes to our elections?” Wow!! Plus, keep in mind that no one in Maine can become a registered voter without providing the legally required identification, that will allow that person to receive a ballot on voting day, and therefore makes much of Question 1 redundant.
And, special thanks to all those involved with this referendum election and those of the past that have given Maine people so much confidence in our elections.
