Jake Shane has had many “pinch-me” moments throughout his career, but having his own show with Hulu might just take the cake.
“I really [didn’t] process it as real and then my incredible, incredible, incredible, incredible team on it was like, ‘No, like, this is real. This is happening,’” Shane, 26, exclusively recalled to Us Weekly, while promoting his TheraBreath partnership. “I remember freaking out and kind of just foaming at the mouth to tell people. When everyone found out, it was the best feeling. I’m so bad at keeping a secret like that. So I was really excited to tell everyone.”
News broke earlier this month of Shane’s comedy show based on his life, which he is set to star in as a version of himself and in addition to serving as an executive producer. The official description for the series notes that the show follows Shane and “his best friends as they navigate the chaotic new world of online fame, the strain it puts on their friendships, and the tension their presence causes in their suburban neighborhood.”
When pressed for further details about the show — like whether his beloved roommates who are frequently seen in his social media would be involved — Shane remained tight-lipped, but noted his friends would be a “dream cameo.”
Jake Shane Teased His ‘Hacks’ Role Before It Was Announced
“I think that would be super cool if they did some fun stuff on it,” Shane said. “I think that would be cool for my followers and for me and for them. It would just be like a fun full circle moment.”
With or without those familiar faces, Shane told Us that his team is getting to work to bring something memorable to the screen.
“We’re putting our heads down and working hard on it,” he said. “We’re going to make it the best possible show we can bring you. And I just want [you] to laugh.”

Shane is also bringing a toolbox of skills he learned from his time on Hacks, where he made an appearance as “Social Media Girlie” in season 4, and Wishful Thinking — an upcoming rom-com, with details of his role also under wraps.
“I learned how to cultivate a really healthy and enjoyable set, honestly,” Shane told Us. “That’s what makes a show good is how positive the atmosphere you’ve created is. That’s what I learned. Hacks and Wishful Thinking just had the greatest sets of all time. Not that I know anything else but from what I could tell, everyone was happy, everyone was kind to each other, and it made for a really good television show.”
Jake Shane Recalls Message From Taylor Swift He ‘Took to Heart’
Shane has also leaned on pal Glen Powell to offer up sage wisdom as he embarks on navigating the industry.
“He really is just the busiest guy — honestly, never met someone busier — and every time I have a question about something, he’s always there to answer thoughtfully and quickly,” Shane said of Powell, 37. “He really just gives me such excellent advice on how to conduct yourself on set, how to get out of a bad headspace. I can’t say enough kind words about him. He’s really the best and really, really helpful when it comes to acting stuff.”
Shane, for his part, is also busy — balancing his “Therapuss” podcast and acting endeavors with his TheraBreath partnership. Shane teamed up with the oral care brand for an honest campaign with their new Toothpaste line, where he’s helping “deliver the news” to someone who may need a bit of freshening up.

From now until December 12, fans can nominate their “Breathapy” moments by sending a direct message to @TheraBreath on Instagram with #Breathapy for a chance to win a sample and a personalized pep-talk video from Shane himself.
“Bad breath is literally my number one fear, like, beyond belief,” Shane said. “So to have TheraBreath in my daily kit is very important to me. It makes me feel confident when I’m talking to people that they’re not miserable in silence.”
