Scammers are certainly getting creative.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday warned Mainers that someone claiming to be “Sgt. Daniels” has been calling people and requesting DNA samples. (How exactly you would get “Sgt. Daniels” your DNA isn’t clear.)
The sheriff’s office warned that “Sgt. Daniels” may claim to have an arrest warrant for you and pressure you to make an untraceable payment over the phone.
The sheriff’s office stressed that it will “NEVER” ask for DNA samples over the phone, tell you that you have an arrest warrant and demand payment, or ask for personal or financial information.
If “Sgt. Daniels” calls you, hang up immediately and do not give him any information.
