Some of the North region’s powerhouse field hockey teams are heading back to the state championships Saturday.
Belfast, Skowhegan and Foxcroft Academy will each be playing for a state title in Lewiston after taking home the North regional title in their respective class Thursday night.
Skowhegan beat Mount Ararat of Topsham 3-0 in Class A and now faces Cheverus of Portland.
Belfast beat Nokomis 2-0 and played Freeport for the Class B state title.
Foxcroft beat MCI 5-1 in the Class C North title game and now faces Spruce Mountain of Livermore Falls for the state championship.
Belfast is looking to defend its state title from a year ago. Skowhegan is heading back to the state championship after a rare regional final loss a year ago. The River Hawks had gone to 22 straight state championships before Brewer interrupted that streak a year ago.
Foxcroft Academy is heading back to the state title game after falling to Dexter in the regional championship a year ago. The ponies have won four state championships over the years, according to the school.
