I have a hard time understanding how an elected state official, like a full-time governor, can attempt to be elected to another full-time federal position without stepping aside from their current position. I understand running for re-election to a position one currently holds, but not a different position as both are full-time positions.
Janet Mills is displaying what I consider the arrogance of each and every elected official, state or federal, who have been in politics too long! They promise to fulfill the duties of an elected official in whichever position they get, but also feel free to run for other offices because they are above or better than the peons they represent?
If we have no law, rule amendment, or whatever to prevent these actions, then I think maybe it is time for our state Legislature to enact such legislation to give the electorate the guarantee of fulfillment by elected state and federal office holders. You get elected, sworn in, take the oath, then you must fulfill this obligation before you turn your attention to what you feel is a better position, requiring full attention to get elected, but also potentially disregarding the promise to the public of giving your best efforts on their behalf to your current office. What a disgusting bait and switch action being put forth by these officials.
