Stillwater Avenue will be closed in Old Town next week for bridge maintenance.
The temporary bridge carrying the road over the Stillwater River will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Nov. 9 and 13. The Maine Department of Transportation hasn’t said what nights during that time the bridge will be closed.
That comes as crews continue work to replace the Llewellyn G. Estes Memorial Bridge, built in 1952 and which has been deteriorating, particularly its northern end. The more than $28 million project is expected to take years.
During the construction, a temporary bridge is carrying traffic over the Stillwater River.
The closure next week is needed so crews can prepare the temporary bridge for winter.
Message boards will direct drivers to the detour around construction.
