The defending state champion Bangor High School girls soccer team captured its third consecutive Class A North title on Tuesday night.
Junior midfielder Gabby Roy scored a pair of goals and sophomore striker Georgie Stephenson had a goal and an assist to lead the Rams to a 4-1 victory over Camden Hills at Cameron Stadium.
It was the third straight year Bangor and Camden Hills met in the final.
Bangor will now meet Scarborough in the state final for the third straight year. It will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Messalonskee High School in Oakland.
Camden Hills entered the game having posted six straight shutouts and the four goals is the most the Windjammers had allowed all season .
Bangor improved to 15-1-1 while Camden Hills of Rockport wound up 15-1 with both losses to Bangor.
Bangor coach Jay Kemble said it didn’t surprise him that they scored four goals but it did surprise him that they did it against Camden Hills.
“They’re a tremendous team, a tremendous defensive team,” said Kemble. “They position well. They’re well-coached.
“It was one of those battles. We were able to get some [goals] early and take a little pressure off us in terms of full field play,” said Kemble.
Stephenson scored her 35th goal of the season early in the second half to give Bangor a 3-1 lead and set up Gabby Gordon 4:52 later.
Stephenson’s goal was an absolute gem.
She chased down a loose ball in the left side of the penalty area, spun around and sailed a precise shot with her left foot that went over the head of freshman goalie Eliza Gallant and nestled into the upper far corner of the net.
She made a great pass to Gordon to send her in alone down the right side and Gordon placed it neatly past Gallant.
Roy’s goal with 12:38 left in the first half gave the Rams a 2-1 lead at the intermission as she took a Clara Oldenburg pass in the left side of the penalty area, cut to the middle and rifled a low shot past Gallant.
Roy had staked Bangor to a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the game with a well-placed shot inside the right post but Elsa Schwam equalized 10 minutes later by drilling an Isabel DeBrosky pass past Bangor goalie Emily Caulkins.
