Michael May and Charlene Virgilio were elected Tuesday to three-year terms on the Old Town City Council with 1,284 and 1,203 votes, respectively.
Russell Sossong came in third with 765 votes.
May and Virgilio have both previously served on the council and said they wanted to ensure Old Town is fiscally responsible and efficient with citizens’ taxes in the future in an attempt to lower the city’s taxes.
May, 48, wants to bring services for kids back to the city and continue to offer essential services like emergency response. Services like children receiving memberships to the local YMCA should be brought back to help young families and make the city more attractive for families, he said.
Virgilio, 64, was reelected to her seat that she held for six months. During her first term, Virgilio learned more about the city’s budget, the process and possible solutions for a rising tax rate, she said.
With her new term, she wants to find ways to lower the city’s tax rate including looking into an updated contract with the Juniper Ridge landfill and finding more tourism by leaning into the city’s riverfront.
May and Virgilio did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
