Local teachers association backs veteran school teachers before Election Day
The Bangor Education Association is endorsing Benjamin Speed and Mallory Cook as candidates for Bangor School Committee.
BEA President Stephanie Hendrix said, “These candidates are best positioned to help lead our city and our local schools and we feel they will help Bangor grow and thrive, especially for the students in our city.”

The endorsement from the local teachers union comes before a school committee race in Bangor where four candidates are vying for two open seats.
“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the Bangor Education Association, and I take it quite seriously”, shared Speed. “It gives me pride to serve the educators of Bangor to advocate, defend, and be a champion for them and the students they serve.”
Speed is running on the platform of ensuring resources for teachers and students by properly funding programs, promoting the arts and career and technical education, attracting families to Bangor Schools, providing access to behavioral and mental health services and sustaining special education resources for families.
Speed and Cook were both also endorsed by Food and Medicine as well as the Eastern Maine Labor Council. Elections end in Bangor 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 as in person voting will take place at the Cross Insurance Center.
