More than 500 MaineHealth patients received letters last week indicating they were dead and offering information to their next of kin about settling their estate, according to the Portland Press Herald.
All of the patients were alive.
MaineHealth said that on Oct. 20, an error in its computer system led to letters being sent to 531 patients indicating they were deceased and providing information about resolving their estate, according to a statement provided to WGME.
Caroline Cornish, communications and public affairs manager at MaineHealth, told the Portland Press Herald the organization “sincerely regrets” the error and has sent apology letters to all patients who were affected.
Cornish said the patients were never listed as deceased in their medical records and that the issue has been resolved.
