A convicted sex offender was found with a child in Rockland.
Matthew Boegel, 27, of Bowdoin has been charged with felony sexual abuse of minors and violating his conditions of release, according to the Rockland Police Department.
Police learned Wednesday evening that Boegel was spotted having contact with a child, whose age wasn’t disclosed Friday.
Officers found Boegel and the child, and placed the sex offender under arrest. During the subsequent investigation, police found evidence of new sex crimes, according to the department.
Boegel was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor and unlawful sexual contact, according to the Maine Sex Offender Registry. He is a lifetime registrant.
“Rockland Police Department would like to thank the citizen who had the wherewithal to know what they were seeing was wrong and took the effort to report it,” the department said in a statement.
