What’s scarier on Halloween than not having a good movie to watch? If you have HBO Max, you won’t have that problem — the streamer has a slew of great movies to watch this weekend.

At the top of Watch With Us’ list is Mirror Mirror, an imaginative remake of Snow White starring Julia Roberts as everyone’s favorite wicked queen.

Horror fans will love the ’80s killer car classic Christine, while anyone interested in high-quality movies should check out Sorry, Baby, which is already on my list of the best 2025 movies.

‘Mirror Mirror’ (2012)

2025 saw Disney’s big-budget live-action remake of Snow White flop hard at the box office, but even if it had succeeded, it wouldn’t hold a candle to Mirror Mirror, a visually dazzling retelling of the beloved fairy tale. Directed by The Fall’s Tarsem, the 2012 fantasy film begins not as a Snow White story but rather an Evil Queen one. She’s played by Julia Roberts, who ditches her America’s Sweetheart persona to live it up as the vain and naughty wicked stepmother of young Snow.

7 New Movies to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video and More (October 31-November 2)

When the Evil Queen falls for the dashing Alcott (Armie Hammer), she fully intends to marry him. There’s only one problem — he’s in love with Snow White (Lily Collins)! What’s a woman to do? Well, she banishes her stepdaughter to the forest and tries to kill her with dark magic, of course. Snow survives, and she teams up with seven dwarves to take down the Queen once and for all.

Mirror Mirror provides just enough twists to the story everyone knows to make it seem fresh. It helps that the cinematography by Brendan Galvin is so lush to look at, and the performers, particularly Roberts, are so fun to watch. It also makes you wonder what the hell Disney was thinking with their interpretation, which seems more ghastly when you compare it to this version.

Mirror Mirror is streaming on HBO Max.

‘Christine’ (1983)

Normal teenage guys really love their cars, but Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) isn’t your average teen. Socially awkward and a frequent target of bullies, he only has one friend in the world: football jock Dennis Guilder (John Stockwell). He helps him buy an old, beaten-up 1958 Plymouth Fury automobile nicknamed Christine, which Arnie restores to its former glory.

Soon, nerdy Arnie changes into a cool guy and even dates the beautiful new girl, Leigh Cabot (a pre-Baywatch Alexandra Paul). But Arnie also has an unhealthy relationship with Christine, which appears to be sentient — and jealous of anyone who gets between her and Arnie. Dennis is the only one who can pull Arnie back from the brink of madness, but is he strong enough to take on a possibly demonically possessed car?

Only Stephen King can craft such a macabre tale, and only director John Carpenter can make it seem almost logical. On paper, the story is absurd, but somehow, Carpenter makes it oddly poignant — and terrifying. Arnie emerges as a memorable tragic figure, a nerd who finally gets his revenge, but at too high a cost.

‘Sorry, Baby’ (2025)

How do you recover from something so traumatic, it changes your life forever? That’s what Agnes (Eva Victor) has to ask herself throughout Sorry, Baby, one of 2025’s breakout indie successes. She’s a young English professor who, while visiting friends from her grad school days, recalls a sexual assault she experienced by one of her teachers, Preston Decker (Louis Cancelmi). While it happened a long time ago, Agnes still has to deal with the fallout of her experience and how it still affects her in the present.

26 Must-Watch Movies on HBO Max to Stream Right Now (October 2025)

Would you believe Sorry, Baby is a comedy, albeit a black one? That’s one of the small miracles of the film — it employs gallows humor as a way for its heroine, and us, to process her trauma. Victor also wrote and directed the film, and she’s a multihyphenate to watch for — she’s funny and observant, with a strong handle on difficult material. Sorry, Baby is a must-watch movie for anyone who likes their drama tinged with bittersweet laughs.
