A Lewiston man allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend to force her to steal for him from Walmart on Wednesday.
Harrison Coleman, 50, has been charged with kidnapping, domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Coleman allegedly assaulted the 30-year-old woman, forced her into his vehicle and drove her to Walmart. When they arrived, Coleman allegedly ordered her to steal specific items from the Auburn Walmart or he would kill her.
Once inside the store, she told an employee that she had been threatened. The employee found an Auburn police officer working security at the store to report that about 1:30 p.m.
Officers found Coleman and arrested him. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail. Coleman is being held without bail until he appears before a judge, Auburn police said Thursday morning.
“The quick actions of Walmart employees and the close proximity of the initial responding officer ensured this victim’s safety and led to the swift arrest of the suspect,” Deputy Chief Tim Cougle said.
