Police are asking for the public’s help to find a driver who hit a pedestrian in the Cumberland County town of Pownal.

The crash was reported at noon on Sunday in the area of 825 Hallowell Road.

Zachary Cooperstein, 36, of Gray, was returning to his vehicle from a walk in the woods when he was hit by a white Toyota Camry driven by an older woman, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The car stopped “and there was contact with the operator,” the sheriff’s office said, but the driver left before police arrived and was last seen headed toward Durham.

Cooperstein’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the car or driver to contact Deputy Andrew Hanna through the dispatch center, 207-893-2810, or by email at [email protected].
