Isla Fisher was surprised to hear that her friend Nicole Kidman had separated from Keith Urban.
“I’m really, really, really shocked,” Fisher, 49, said on the Thursday, October 23, episode of the “Fly on the Wall” podcast. “I have left a message, [but] I have not connected yet. I don’t really want to comment on that because there are children involved.”
Us Weekly confirmed in September that Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, split after 19 years of marriage. The Big Little Lies actress has since filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and requesting primary custody of her and Urban’s two teenage daughters.
“The hardest part is navigating the dynamic with their daughters,” a source exclusively told Us on Friday, October 24, of Kidman and Urban. “The last thing Nicole wanted was a broken family.”

According to the insider, Kidman is focused on keeping her kids’ home lives “as steady and loving as possible.”
While Fisher, for her part, declined to speak further on Kidman and Urban’s breakup, she’s recently been navigating a similar situation herself.
“I’ve been married for 23 years. I only just got separated [and] divorced,” Fisher said on Thursday, referring to her relationship with fellow actor Sacha Baron Cohen.
Fisher married Cohen, 54, in 2010 before they welcomed three children together. The twosome, however, announced in April 2024 that they had separated. Fisher and Cohen settled their divorce the next year.
“Our divorce has now been finalized,” the now-exes wrote in a joint social media statement shared in June. “We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to coparenting our wonderful children. We ask for the media to continue to respect our children’s privacy.”
Fisher has since been candid about navigating her next chapter post-divorce.
“It’s the most difficult thing that I’ve been through and I’ve learnt so much about myself in the process,” she previously told the Times of London in a February profile. “I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents.”
Fisher continued, “Kids are the most important thing and you want them to really feel safe and loved. We are building a new, healthy version of what our family looks like and putting as much care and love into it as possible.”
While redefining her life, Fisher has also found solace in her close circle of friends.

“The women in my life have held me … the female relationships that I cultivated in our business, those women have been there for me. I’m actually going to get emotional,” she told The Times. “I’m sitting here today because of them. I’ve learnt so much about the power of female friendship and I’ve just learnt that I do have resilience, who I am outside of a partnership and what my values are. It’s been this expansive learning curve.”
As for Kidman, she has similarly leaned on her inner circle, praising her “ride-or-die friendships” in a Vogue profile published earlier this month.
“Oh, yeah,” Kidman quipped, also revealing the highs and lows are fodder for her career. “I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do. There’s a place for some of this to explode, implode, process, discover. I’m contemplating writing, [which might be] a necessity.”
